Little Asia - A Fusion of Asian Cuisine (Philippines)

Stopping by the Venice Piazza Mckinley Hill at Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City; we went in search for a restaurant.  We decided to dine at "Little Asia".
Little Asia Restaurant
Little Asia, a symphony of flavors.  Definitely a fusion of Asian cuisine.  Constantly recognized by their outstanding food, this is one place to dine with your family and friends.

Before we ate at this restaurant, truthfully, I never heard of it until then.  On the contrary, when our companions decided to dine at this restaurant,  I thought I will be vastly disappointed.  Having tried various Chinese restaurants,  and having presumed at the same time that this is a Chinese restaurant; sometimes, your taste gets accustomed to the flavors that a mere difference in the taste can give you satisfaction or dissatisfaction.

So, as we entered the restaurant, I was preparing for an ordinary meal I would never really talk about.  But guess what, Little Asia did prove me wrong.

Little Asia's ceiling
Upon entering the restaurant, this ceiling caught our attention.  These ceiling lights cast soft glow of lights that give you that warm oriental feeling as you dine.  They look like Japanese paper covered lanterns but they're not.  I think they are sheer colored cloths covering the lights.  But you and I can definitely agree, they worked their magic.  Right?

Little Asia's counter and mini bar
Little Asia's interior
Tables outside the restaurant, for guests who wants to dine outside.

Little Asia at Venice Piazza Mckinley Hill at Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City doesn't have a big space but the food deserves a huge applause.  I'm not an expert in designs nor food taste so my descriptions are not of an expert but as of an ordinary person observing a place or taste of food.  In my view,  Little Asia's interior designs are mixture of different Asian cultures like Chinese, Japanese, Singaporean, and others... that the food in itself is an oriental fusion of different cultures.

So it's a real misconception on my part when I assumed that we will be eating Chinese cuisine.  I'm glad though that it's Asian cuisine we had.

But before we decided on the menu, Little Asia's placemat enumerating it's awards through the years caught my interest.

Little Asia's Set Menu

With whetted appetites we glanced through the list of set menus.  Though they do have ala carte menu, we decided on the set menus since we were a big group.  Since it's all our first time to try this restaurant, none of us were too adventurous to venture on the upper menu with a much higher price.  All of us decided to settle on "Set D".

Little Asia's Set D Menu
It was already quiet late when we ordered our food so most of us were quiet hungry.  So when the food arrived we delved into them with gusto.  Below are the the photos of the food we ate.  Please pardon my photos,  I think we were too hungry that I only remembered to take some photos after we have eaten them. ;)

Little Asia's Crispy Chicken
The Crispy Chicken which looks like any ordinary chicken you order in any restaurant was very soft and juicy.  The gravy complemented the chicken very well.

Boneless Tilapia w/ Honey-Mayo Sauce
Boneless Tilapia w/ Honey-Mayo Sauce;  sounds kind of puzzling.  The only tilapia I know how to eat is with vinegar dip.  But the honey-mayo sauce works well with the fried tilapia together with its crunchy fried garlic.  The fried garlic really enhanced the taste of the dish.
Squid in Creamy Butter-Milk Sauce
Squid in Creamy Butter-Milk Sauce;  the tender squid combined with the creamy butter-milk sauce gives a melt in your mouth sensation that you want to just continually go on eating.

Spareribs with Thyme in Garlic Sauce
The spareribs with Thyme in Garlic Sauce, is not the usual grilled spareribs we are accustomed to eating.  The thyme combined with the garlic sauce brings out the yummy goodness of the spareribs.  It somehow complemented the taste of the dish.

Surprisingly, the food was very delicious.  You might say, the menu was quiet "sauce" filled, because that was what my first impression of the dishes were.  That it might be too tasty for me.  But in the end,  I ate every drop of morsel that landed on my plate.

Now, don't you wonder?  If this Set D is delicious, what more would the Emperor Set taste like?  We wouldn't know would we, until we taste it. =)  May your experience, if you decide to try, be as enjoyable and fulfilling as ours were! =)

Dusit Thani Manila's outdoor swimming pool
Another recreation that's well used at any hotel is the swimming pool.  Dusit Thani Manila's swimming pool is lovely in the morning but it's even more fabulous at night.  It boast of two swimming pools.  The adult pool and the kiddie pool.  Adults can indulge themselves with morning lap swimming through its rectangular pool.  While the kids can have fun in the shallow square shaped pool.

At night, the Thailand theme of the hotel is much more illuminated through its romantically lit lamps beside the pool.  Couples can enjoy a quiet time by strolling together and just taking in the ambiance the pool offers.  A relaxing way to enjoy togetherness with your family.

Entrance to Devarana Spa
It was this elegance that piqued my curiosity.  We really have no intention to even take a peek inside this spa.  But while lounging on the sofas just outside the spa; the purity, tranquility, peace and relaxing aura of the place exudes upon us, that I just said why not go inside and take a look. =)

It was a pity that I cannot take a shot of the place inside, but the pristine walls and the quietness of the place makes one feel that you will not be disappointed by what's to happen if you avail of their packages.  That the money you spend will be well worth it. ;)

Dusit Thani Manila's Room Amenities - Television, Minibar, Luggage Rack, Working Desk and Mirror

The television, minibar, luggage rack, working desk and mirror
The one thing that we always do; and I guess it's safe to say also that most people do too, is to observe the room's features.  Whether it's the room's ambiance, design, amenities or the complimentary knick knacks in the bathroom; it's just irresistibly tempting to pry around.

So, it goes to say that we cannot resist looking inside the minibar and know what it has to offer its guests.
The luggage rack and minibar
Beside the minibar is the luggage rack for putting on your luggage while organizing your things.

Opening the minibar is like opening a pack of candies when you were a kid.  So delicious; and yet your mom always prevents you from eating it because it's bad for you. =)  In this case, the only thing that prevents you from touching the minibar is the price!

Bigger version of Johnny Walker Black Whiskey

Nope, this version is not included in the minibar.  We brought our own. =)  Just really had fun taking this photo.

Now, I think that's enough with the minibar.  On the working desk, Dusit Thani provided us with complimentary drinks.  Also, they provide their hotel kettle for boiling water and cups with its corresponding spoons which are all available for use.

These you can drink to your hearts content without worrying about the price:

Oh, by the way, the ginger teabags are really good, in my opinion.  They really helped one of our companion ease the sore throat that's incoming.

Dusit Thani Manila - Deluxe Room Accommodation

With our room cards in hand, we excitedly waited for our elevator.  Inside the elevator we pressed the floor assigned to us, then... nothing happens!  Our floor number was not lighting up the way its supposed to when we press them.

Oh, guess what, I finally realized that you have to slip your room card for verification. =)  Pretty cool huh?  This partly ensures every guests' safety since only guests staying at the hotel can have access to the room floors.  I know some hotels have this feature but not all, so it's really wonderful that this hotel have it.  Not to mention, my kid enjoys slipping the card every time we use the elevator. =)

Dusit Thani's elevator with their room card verification slots

Then up we go.  Upon arriving at the 10th floor, our floor; we then stopped for a moment and take in the designs and carpeted floors.

    Our room
Our room at 1012.  Observe the switch at the left side.  It's a switch for the "Make Up Room", "Do Not Disturb" and doorbell.  While other hotels use paper signs to hang on the door knob, Dusit Thani uses this switch. =)

Dusit Thani's Deluxe Room - King size bed
The Deluxe room.  We chose the king sized bed instead of the two (2) single sized bed.  Farther, are the sofa and coffee table; the curtains behind covers the window to our room.

King sized bed with lamp shades on both sides
Our luxurious king sized bed with its pillows has lamps on both sides which cast golden glow of lights that adds to the cozy and homey atmosphere and invites one to relax amidst all the luxury and refinement of the room.

    The sofa and coffee table
We were really able to maximize this sofa and coffee table.  This is where we chatted through cups of coffee before we explored the hotel's amenities.  It was already dark when we checked-in, fixing some loose ends at work and at home.  So this was really a perfect way to relax with your love ones, taking time to  just lean back on the sofa while talking about life itself.  Sometimes a conversation with your love ones can lift out some of the things that's bothering us with our day to day life.

Television ,minibar, luggage rack, working desk and mirror
Facing the bed are the television, minibar, luggage rack, working desk and mirror.  The minibar is inconspicuously located below the television.  Beside it is the working table complete with complimentary drinks like coffee, tea and mineral water.

This are the closet doors located on the left side upon entering the room.  Beside it is the switch connected to the outer switch.  See below for the full picture.

Below are what's inside the closet doors:
Safety deposit box for your valuables
    Laundry bags for your clothes
"His" and "Hers" robe and complimentary bed slippers

Facing the closet is the bathroom.  See my separate blog about this.

    Our key card
Our key card, I call it "our access card in Dusit Thani". =)

Though there's really one small thing that disappoints me; and to those techie people,  there's no free wi-fi. =(  They do have wi-fi but it has a corresponding fee.  Such a pity, we were prepared all along bringing our laptops and surprise!  No free wi-fi.  Maybe in the future they will have?  =)

Nevertheless, all is enjoyably relaxing and fun. =)

      Dusit Thani Manila

As I read through the pages of "Dusit International" book-magazine, as I call it;  I found out quiet a few interesting facts.

      That...
"Dusit Thani" means a "town in heaven".  This is what the inspiration of Dusit Thani is.  That for over 60 years they have worked to translate Thailand's King Rama VI's ideal which was that he envisioned a wondrous utopian kingdom; an inspiration for the experience that Dusit Thani continually aim to create for their guests whether for business or for pleasure.

      Dusit Thani Manila's front desk

Located in Makati,  where the central business district of Manila is.  It is strategically accessible to leading business address, embassies, exclusive residential areas and malls, all of which are in walking distance.  For me, it is very convenient and enjoyable.  I can enjoy the luxury of this hotel and what's more I can shop to my hearts delight at the malls beside this hotel without worrying how to get back come night fall.

Upon entering its luxurious lobby, Thai artistry and creativity are clearly seen in every detail of their surroundings.  From the design on the walls and floors, decorations and unique ornaments to the uniforms of the employees, Thai detail is infused in every way.

In my view, these are the following things that guests usually visit this hotel for:

      Restaurant
      • Basix - experience Global / International Cuisine
      • Benjarong - gives a Royal Thai dining experience
      • Fiesta San Miguel - serves Filipino Cuisine
      • Tosca - provides an European-Italian culinary experience
      • Umu - a Japanese restaurant

      Recreation
      • Devarana Spa - offers a peaceful tranquil sanctuary of anti-stress and relaxation; a "heaven for spa lover".
      • DFit Fitness Centre - a fitness center with 973 square metres of state-of-the-art studio areas and sauna to meet the individual fitness goals of guests and members.
      • Outdoor Swimming Pool

      Accommodation

Room accommodations are clean, comfortable and of course excellent in taste.  It offers a calm oasis of international standards, warm Asian service and tastefully furnished comfort that we look for in any rooms.  See my next blog on this.

Preview of Dusit Thani's "Deluxe Room" - room accommodation

Also, for those of you who worry about parking spaces; they do have parking slots for guest, though their parking is only one floor.  So if you come here and stay during the peak season, it might be a little hard but you can always play by luck the way that I usually do in cases like this.

      Dusit Thani's parking lot

Although Dusit Thani's parking lot is quiet small,  I kind of like it.  Have you ever encountered parking lots that have steep ramp slopes?  This one has only one ramp slope and it didn't cause us any problem at all.   Remember, it's a first come first serve basis.

Most of the information aside from my own personal views comes from Dusit Thani's own book-magazine.  The "Dusit International".  See below for full photo of the book-magazine.
