Express by Holiday Inn Hotel Hong Kong

After our magical stay at Disneyland Hollywood Hotel in Hong Kong, it's back to the real world and what else?  Sightseeing and shopping in Hong Kong!

With soaring prices in hotel accommodation,  we had to plan out where to stay after Disneyland Hollywood Hotel.  Of course, as a traveler if its affordable and comfortable; why not?  right?  So, we asked around and a friend told us that we can try Express by Holiday Inn Hotel.  And so we did!

Express by Holiday Inn Hotel main lobby and reception counter

Express by Holiday Inn Hotel, is aptly described by its name - Express  !  Which means fast.  If you want a no fuss stay and is always on the go and doesn't need bell service; this hotel is the one for you.  Though it doesn't mean they don't have bell service, they just don't bother you that much when you don't need it.

When going to Hong Kong, I was usually asked where am I going to stay?  Hong Kong side or Kowloon side?  I never really value the question, not until I went to Hong Kong a few more times that I began to understand.  By Hong Kong side, they mean Hong Kong Island; where the heart of the city is!  Business, entertainment, shopping and commercial areas are found.  It is where you want to be in.  And by Kowloon side, they mean Kowloon Island.  This is another side where all the high end stores are found.  Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci... to name a few.  If this is what you have in mind, this maybe the wrong side of the island for you.  But nevertheless, MTR is always a convenient tool of transportation in Hong Kong.

Express by Holiday Inn Hotel is inconspicuously found in the heart of Hong Kong Island.  Inconspicuous?  Why?  Because it's not like the usual hotel where, the front door leads to the main lobby.  You have to step on an escalator which then brings you up the lobby.  The escalator itself is not readily noticeable, it is partly hidden by the wall, but it doesn't mean that you'll get lost.  It's just a bit puzzling!  NOTE:  Big luggages may seem hard to pull up the escalator.  You may need bell service assistance for the elevator, which is also inconspicuously hidden at the back. =)

So you might now ask, where am I exactly if I am to stay here?
You are next to these well-known areas in Hong Kong which are:
  • Causeway Bay
  • Times Square Mall
  • Causeway Bay MTR station - a few minutes walk from the hotel
  • 10-minute taxi ride from Ocean Park
  • 15 minutes taxi ride from Lan Kwai Fong
  • 40 minutes ride from Hong Kong International Airport via shuttle bus or the Airport Express rail service.
But believe me, you'll never be able to finish them all not unless you plan to stay longer than a few days.  The amusement park and Times Square Mall only; will keep you busy that you have no time to even consider other options. =)

Express by Holiday Inn Hotel's directory

Express by Holiday Inn Hotel's rooms are fairly clean and comfortable.  Though they are not as spacious as compared to Disneyland's Hollywood Hotel's rooms.  It is more or less  only 3/4 of that space.  But it didn't really bother us at all.  We were more on looking forward to the day ahead of us.

Express by Holiday Inn's rooms
The extra bed near the window means extra charge.
Our rooms hallway and door.  The door on the left leads to the bathroom.
Our bathroom
Our bathroom's shower
The outside hallway
Only kids can share the room with their parents for free.  Adults with extra bed entails extra charge.

What are the other benefits?
  • Complimentary set breakfast - you have choices to choose from.  Not really sure if I remembered correctly; the choices were English breakfast, Chinese breakfast, Locals breakfast. =)
  • Complimentary internet access at the "Business Center / Internet Corner" - located near the lobby

It was quiet accessible and convenient for us.  All in all, when its time for us to leave for home; while waiting for our bus ride to the airport, we were able to have a little tour at Time Square Mall.  That's how short the distance is from the hotel.  A little time for some leisure walk.

What else can I say, a vacation this short always leaves you feeling and wanting for more!  But that means all the more better because you have something to look forward to the next time. =)

Hong Kong: Disneyland Hotel's Garden

Our breakfast at Disneyland Hotel's Enchanted Garden Restaurant was really memorable.  And what made it the more so is that we had this really fantastic view.  I think it's worthwhile to blog a view this magnificent!  I almost forgot to do so until I scanned my photos. =)

A very well tended garden

A view fit for a pictorial
Just beyond is the maze. As you can see, it is well-cut and well-tended.  It's a pity we haven't got the chance to explore it due to weather conditions.

It was quite a misty day

Above, a sneek view of the guests room's veranda

Elegant stairs on both sides

If the weather had permitted us, we could have had the chance to discover what will lead going up those elegant stairs!  Maybe next time! =)

Hong Kong: Disneyland Hotel's Gift Shop, Salon and Bathroom

The one thing we can't resist when we have vacations is to look for souvenirs to bring home.  Even if we know that hotel souvenir prices are a bit pricey... still this is "The Land of Mickey Mouse", the icon associated for Disneyland! =)  So let's threw caution in the wind for awhile and buy even one (1) little thing that fancy our eyes...  or not? =)

Everything cute and fancy, pretty and nice, delicate and classy, fluffy and soft, all that's pleasing to the eyes and nice to the touch.  A haven for the little kids and even a haven for money spending parents and adults...  (grin... grin... grin...) !

Everything nice and fancy to the touch and eyes.

Mickey and Minnie Stuff Toys under the colored window panes.

Rows and row of plush toys

Cute and cuddly baby Donald Duck

And of course fancy clothes for the little tots! =)

Here are some of my great finds that might give you an idea of what to expect inside this gift shop.

Coloring Case
A coloring case containing 18 color pencils, 18 slim markers, 18 crayons, 18 pastels, 12 markers, pencil, eraser, ruler and sharpener.  Perfect for my little one.  This complete coloring case cost HK$165.00.

10 Classic Markers
If the coloring case might be too expensive for your taste,  these classic markers will still do its magic to your little one.  These classic markers costs HK$50.00.

5th Anniversary Special Edition souvenir spoon and fork
Since Disneyland Hong Kong is celebrating their 5th Anniversary, they have lots of special edition souvenirs.  This special edition spoon and fork set souvenir is great to give to somebody special to you, or just for yourself.  This one costs HK$150.00.

Heart shaped lock and key
This one is my best find. Only for me! =)  A Disney Princess lock and key.  Really love cute stuffs! =)  This one costs HK$60.00.

After satisfying our curiosity with all the lovely goods at the gift shop, we went to the bathroom before continuing our journey for the day.  And oh, we're glad we did.  The lobby's bathroom is magnificent!

Ladies Bathroom Sign

Gentlemen's Bathroom Sign

Bathroom interior

Disney Princess mirrors and marbled counter tops

The Victorian theme continued even inside the bathroom interior.  The lights illuminate the golden design all over the area.  It's a sight to behold.  The counter tops are well maintained and clean.  It's as if you'll be wary to use them thinking you might mess up the beauty of the place. =)  It also has a sink designed particularly for the convenience of the kids!  Disneyland do think of everything don't you think?

Just outside the bathroom is a salon for your little princesses, where they can be made up into real princesses with matching princess gowns.  It's a fairytale come true in this salon.  If you have little girls this is where they would love to go.

The salon with its window display of Disney Princesses gowns.  Inside they are treated to an individual vanity where they are made-up to be real princesses! =)

Something for the little girls to look forward to and something for the adults' expectation to see the appreciation and delight coming from their kids eyes.  It's those precious moments that makes it all worthwhile!

Hong Kong: Disneyland Hotel - The Hotel of Magic and Fantasy

We were too excited with our breakfast at "Enchanted Garden" that we totally forgot about Disneyland Hotel itself.  It was only after we were tummy satisfied with our breakfast that we began to wander around the hotel itself.

Where Hollywood Hotel offers glamour, Disneyland Hotel offers opulence in every way.  The Victorian style decor offers elegance in every nook and cranny of the hotel.  The lavish decor that is typical in the Victorian Era can be seen in the paneling and wood works.  Golden marbles and walls just adds to its glory.

    Disneyland Hotel's Front Desk

Charmingly captivating in every way, Disneyland Hotel let us enter the land of fairytale.  Where we can spoil our senses with its elegantly refined decor and luxurious amenities fit for the most discerning eye.

    Golden Grandeur in its glory.

    Lobby's Magnificent Chandelier

    Grand Window Panes

    Lobby's Full View

    Disneyland Hotel's Bronze Mickey Statue

    Disneyland Hotel's Bronze Minnie Statue

Definitely a feast for the eyes.  But due to time constrains, we weren't able to fully take advantage of its glory.  But the one thing we couldn't resists to visit is their gift shop.  Should you have more than ample time to do so, it's like a whole different world inside not only fascinating for the kids but also amazing even for the adults.  Only a little heavy on the pocket! =)  But what's one little souvenir to bring home than non at all? =)

Leaving Disneyland Hotel with a heavy heart, we left the hotel and was still greeted by the continuous theme of the hotel outside.

This walkway greeted us outside with its delicate-looking but sturdy handrails.

Can't help but take a picture of this Mickey design garbage along the way.

After experiencing Disney's Hollywood Hotel during our stay in Hong Kong;  the next time I come back,  Disneyland Hotel will definitely be the first choice in my list!

Hong Kong: Disneyland Hotel's "Enchanted Garden Restaurant" - A Breakfast to Remember

Disneyland Hong Kong has two exciting hotels to choose from.  That is Disney's Hollywood Hotel and Disneyland Hotel.

When I first surfed the internet, I got quite confused between the two.  It's only when I arrived at Hollywood Hotel itself that I understood that both hotels offer their own signature restaurants.

So, in order to experience the best of  both of hotels even with our limited time, we decided to sample one of each of the Hotel's signature restaurants.

The first day we had our dinner at Disney's Hollywood Hotel's "Chef Mickey".  The next day, we decided to enjoy breakfast at Disneyland Hotel's "Enchanted Garden".  Both needs early reservations, we were lucky we were accommodated during our checking-in period.  I heard some were not because it was fully booked already, especially the latter restaurant.

Entrance to the "Enchanted Garden Restaurant"

Mickey and Minnie figures in the middle of the buffet

Entering the restaurant is like stepping into a fabulously prepared dishes featuring an international buffet created by an all-star team chefs.  Where the highlight of the meal is when Disney Characters delight their guests with a visit to each of their tables.  Creating of course, a commotion of excitement and pictorials!

    A Victorian inspired restaurant

What can I say?  The restaurant is packed with guests diners!

Just look at the intricate details on the walls and ceilings!

The food from the buffet is gastronomic in every sense!
We couldn't help but be awed by the restaurant. In spite of the fully booked seats and people milling around the buffets, it was definitely a sight to behold.

Hotdog, bacon, rice, omelet and vegetables with Mickey hand carrot cut-outs

Of course what's a breakfast meal without a Mickey pancake?

Now comes the moment we've been anticipating...  A visit from the Disney Characters!

    Chef Pluto

The very sweet and affectionate Daisy!

To sum it up, it was a sumptuous and delightful breakfast meal.  I'm glad we tried the best of both hotels even only a part of it!
